Maxie was a handsome grass element kitsune with thick green fur and nine tails, most of which were usually hidden by magic to make walking around more manageable for their owner. He rarely contacted with civilization, preferring the soothing rustling of tree crowns to the crowded alleys of towns and villages. There were plenty of small critters for him to hunt, so he wasn’t afraid of starving. Too bad he also was a tempting prey for bigger predators, which lived in this forest in abundance… The only thing that saved him from otherwise imminent death was the same almighty magic, which kept his soul tied to this forest and brought him back to life again and again, but everything came at its cost – every time he was gurgled away by a predator, he spent at least a few weeks as a ghost, and it was far from pleasant experience, motivating him to avoid being eaten at all costs. He peeked in the sky and winced, covering his snout with his hand – sun was mercilessly scorching at this time of the day, so he decided to make a small break under a sprawling oak. He sat on the grassy ground and leant back against the rough tree bark, not even noticing how he gradually drifted asleep, soothed by the warm breeze and rustling of the grass…
