Lucius squinted as he was brought out of the cozy darkness of the arena dungeon to the blinding light of the outer world. Sun was at its zenith, making the sand under his bare feet scorching hot. It was the least of his troubles though since he wasn’t given a chance to redeem himself in a fair fight with a fellow human gladiator.
The rich merchant whose treasure he dared to steal was so pissed off that did everything he could to convince the authorities to give him the worst punishment possible, Damnatio ad Bestias. Instead of fighting a human, he was supposed to fight wild animals. Well, at least he was given a spear, unlike the other unfortunate prisoner.
