It was a cold, rainy day outside, but it was warm and cozy in the Castle of Friendship. Or at least in Barb’s room, since most of the castle rooms were still empty and just as cold as outdoors. Thorax was lounging on the soft carpet and watching the dancing flames in the fireplace.
He thought about how much comfier pony houses were compared to the cramped and slimy chambers of the changeling hive he had been raised in. Let alone how much friendlier and nicer ponies were to him compared to other changelings. Barb not only convinced everypony in the Crystal Empire that he was their friend, but also invited him to her home after that. It was so… so… kind that he still struggled to comprehend it was really possible.

She was unaware of what was going on in there when she entered, leaving her unprepared so she had no real chance of avoiding falling to such thing
